WHAT IS PODIATRY?

Podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of problems in the foot, ankle and lower limb.

A Podiatrist is a degree educated healthcare professional, specialising in the provision of preventative care, diagnosis and treatment for a range of issues associated with feet, ankles and the lower limb.

During our degrees we spend hundreds of hours on placement gaining first-hand clinical experience in a broad range of footcare specialities. This means we are fully trained and qualified to perform minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic, carry out biomechanical assessments, issue custom made insoles and administer products for dermatological conditions.

In addition to being healthcare graduates, our Podiatrists are members of the Royal College of Podiatry and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Royal College membership ensures high standards of practice and patient care as well as ensuring your podiatrist is current with advancements in podiatric care.

When choosing a Private Podiatrist it is important to choose one who is HCPC registered. HCPC registration will ensures that your healthcare professional whether in the NHS or private practice is legally registered. It also identifies that they meet the required standards for training, skills, behaviour and health and that they follow safe and effective practice guidelines.

You can check if your podiatrist is registered by using the HCPC 'Check the Register' page.
