OSTENIL INJECTIONS FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS

We offer Ostenil® injections as a treatment for osteoarthritis, which we can use in any of the lower joints from the knee and below.

OSTEOARTHRITIS

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease. It causes pain and loss of mobility or joint function, is the most common rheumatic disease and can lead to chronic disability.

Initial symptoms will be slight stiffness after a period of rest which vanishes once joints are being used again. Over time joint movements will become increasingly and continually painful with an impaired range of movement. 

This will eventually progress to the point where the joints are painful even when resting.  Each stage of the disease will commonly be accompanied by inflammation and swelling in the affected joints.

Synovial fluid in the joint is designed to protect the cartilage from wear and tear, absorb shock, lubricate the joint and act as a filter for nutrients. One of its main components is hyaluronic acid which continually breaks down and is replaced. This balance of old and new hyaluronic acid maintains a working joint. Osteoarthritis disrupts this balance and makes the synovial fluid watery and inefficient which can then lead to the joint becoming painful and swollen.

WHAT IS OSTENIL®?

OSTENIL® and OSTENIL® PLUS are solutions containing hyaluronic acid to be administered as injections. 

 

OSTENIL® PLUS contains a higher concentration of the hyaluronic acid together with Mannitol (a simple sugar derivative) enabling it to offer relief with a single injection.
